Coffee Cabin
Biz Cafe – Group Assignment
Project Challenge: During my time at Biz Cafe from September 2020 to December 2020, I participated in a project that required me to create a successful business using a business plan. As a team leader, my primary objective was to lead my team to finish in first place with the highest income. This involved managing and motivating employees to give their best results, handling situations like hiring, firing, raising wages, training employees, and addressing sexual harassment issues. Additionally, I was responsible for marketing the product, which involved making decisions on advertising, promotions, and pricing for our coffee.
Action Steps: I managed my team effectively, providing guidance and helping them make the best decisions on managing employees, coffee purchases, pricing, quality, and taking risks. I led by example and provided valid reasons to back up my disagreements with my team’s decisions, drawing from my experience, the professor’s teachings, the book, or other students’ experiences.
Result: my team finished in first place with $66,447 of cumulative net income, and we received all the awards from the simulation, including best hours, best satisfaction, best ambiance, best staff, best service, and best quality. Our revenue increased by 50%, and our inventory turnover was 33.18 days, which indicates that our inventory was higher than that of our competitor teams. Our long-term solvency was 0.37, indicating that we did not rely heavily on debt as it was below 1.
This experience allowed me to demonstrate my skills in leadership, team management, decision-making, and strategic thinking, which are crucial in any marketing role.
